27 Unique Stocking Stuffers for Book Lovers (2025)
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is stuffing stockings. I LOVE stockings. Sure, gifts under the tree are fun, but there’s something about digging through a personalized, giant sock full of miniature gifts that represent your favorite things in life that just feel really special to me.
So if you’re looking for stocking stuffers for book lovers this year, allow me to be of assistance. As someone who loves finding stocking stuffers and also someone who is an avid reader herself, I am happy to share my ideas and insights to help your favorite reader have a great Christmas morning.
I’ve put together an absolute dream list of bookish stocking stuffers to make a reader full of all those warm fuzzies on Christmas morning.
I think it’s also worth saying, that the older I get the more wary I grow of our consumer culture. I just don’t buy into the idea that more is really more. The toll that excessive consumerism takes on our planet is also something really concerning to me. So my goal for this list is to generate a holiday gift guide with items that your loved one will ACTUALLY USE and not just store or throw away at some point.
Keep in mind, of course, that every person is different, and so not 100% of the ideas on this list will work for 100% of people. But check it out, because I’d be willing to bet you’ll find at least a spare few bookish stocking stuffer ideas here that will be the perfect match.
Make sure you pin this post to reference during your holiday shopping.

As always, this post may contain affiliate links, which means at no additional cost to you, shopping from them may generate small commissions to support the operations of this blog.
Whenever possible, I recommend buying books at local bookshops or through Bookshop.org, because shopping there puts the profits right into the hands of indie bookstores all over the country.
Literary Band-Aids
Everyone needs a Band-Aid stash in their first aid kit, so why not make them fun? Enter, bookish Band-Aids. These are the perfect stocking stuffers for book lovers, as they are fun AND practical. I find these Shakespearean insult band-aids delightfully hilarious.
I love this clever Edgar Allan Poe option, too. Do you think Edgar Allan Poe ever dreamed his likeness would be found on Band-Aids as bookish stocking stuffers one day? “Quoth the raven, no more sores.”

Book light
A book light would make another inexpensive but useful stocking stuffer for readers. They come in lots of varieties, but my personal favorite is this one, which folds down flat. You can adjust both the brightness and warmth of the light, and the charge lasts a long time.
These are also popular with my kids, who share a room and get annoyed when the other wants to keep the light on to read at night.
There are lots of other styles of book lights available though, including some with flexible, long necks, and some that are designed to be worn like a necklace on the reader rather than clamp to the book itself.
Book-inspired treats
Like I said earlier, I’m all about getting gifts that will actually get used and not just acquiring “stuff.” So giving yummy treats ensures that your gift is going to get used (eaten) and not just thrown away. That makes it one of the best stocking stuffers for book lovers: affordable, practical, and personal.
Here are some fun Harry Potter snack ideas you can order online or purchase from the Harry Potter stores in London or even a Harry Potter store in NYC.
Or how about these adorable Jane Austen-inspired Pride and Peppermints? You can find these on Amazon, but I purchased them in-person when I found them at one of my favorite San Francisco bookshops.

Shopping for an Outlander fan? Throw in a bottle of Sassenach Whiskey, created by Sam Heughan, the actor who portrays the dreamy Jamie Fraser in the Showtime adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels (which are among my favorite books set in Scotland).

Book Sleeve
For readers who carry a book everywhere they go, a good book sleeve can be one of the best bookish stocking stuffers. A good book sleeve will help protect against liquid spills and bent pages as a book gets thrown in a bag with everything else.
There are also lots of handmade book sleeves available on Etsy if you have time to plan and order ahead.

Read Around the World Journal

This next bookish stocking stuffer is one of my own creation: a Read Around the World Journal. This is a labor of love, designed to be the perfect reading journal for those looking to read more world literature. Inside, you can color in countries as you read from them, track your continental TBR lists, track books read by country, and even color in blank bookshelves.
It’s designed by a global reader for fellow global readers, and it would make a great stocking stuffer for your favorite reader this year.
Socks for the book lover
Literary socks make for really fun and quirky stocking stuffers for book lovers. I was gifted a pair of these “Shhh I’m reading” socks and wear them all the time. Your reading loved one will appreciate these socks for future reading sessions:
For someone who prefers a lower profile sock for everyday wear, I love these library card ankle socks:
Literary teas
I have an entire gift idea list for the book and tea lover, and plenty of those would work as stocking stuffers. I particularly love the idea of getting some literary tea in one’s stocking. Check out my list of bookish tea companies that make literary teas, including the NovelTeas brand available on Amazon, which makes a fun literary tea sampler that would make a great stocking stuffer.
I also personally love the Simpson & Vail tea company, which has an entire line of literary teas or a boxed sampler set.
Annotation tools

If your book lover likes to annotate books as they go, this is an easy and affordable thing to add to their stocking. You have a lot of options here, and you can add more than one. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Flat pens that can be kept inside a book (include some extra ink!)
- Erasable pens in various colors
- Pale highlighters (I recommend nothing too bright, and make sure they are no-bleed)
- Flag post it notes (bonus if you get them in the same colors as the highlighters)
Book Embosser or Stamp
Any book owner who’s loaned out a book knows how annoying it is to never have it returned. Enter, the personalized book embosser or stamp. Not every book owner will like to leave their own mark on a book, mind. Speaking as a lover of antiquarian and used books, I quite enjoy seeing the little personalization from a previous owner inside a book, so it doesn’t bother me to leave my own. But if you know your book lover is one to hang onto their books to build their library, they might really enjoy this thoughtful stocking stuffer.

This would also make a great gift for a teacher who loans books to his/her students. And it’s the perfect size to fit inside a stocking.
Tip: Make sure you order this bookish stocking stuffer with enough time, as personalized gifts generally take a little longer to ship.
Book Bedazzling Kit
Book bedazzling is all the rage these days on BookTok. If your favorite reader likes their books to have a little flair, or they have a crafty side, this could be one of their favorite gifts — a book bedazzling kit! It’s unique, creative, and could provide them with hours of focused, bookish fun.
When I attended the Bad Bitch Book Club Summer Camp this year, there were people sitting around book bedazzling for hours every day.
Look for a kit that includes craft glue as well as a tool for picking up those tiny rhinestones.
Literary Oracle or Tarot Cards
If your favorite book lover has a slightly witchy side, then some literary inspired Oracle or Tarot cards can be a really fun surprise for them to get in their stocking. While these won’t be the right fit for everyone, it’s a pretty good bet if you know they already have a deck or two of Oracle or Tarot cards.

There are several options here. I really enjoy this deck of Literary Witches Oracle cards, but there are also Jane Austen tarot cards and for those who also like writing, a Writer’s Oracle deck.
Literary candle
I love a good book/candle mash-up, and there are lots to choose from. Literary candles make perfectly sized stocking stuffers for book lovers.
This bookish candle claims to smell like a library, which is my idea of heaven. I love that it’s a soy candle because you get so much more burn time compared to a traditional wax candle.

The company Paddywax sells candles designed to smell like the libraries of specific authors (not sure how, but sounds fun). Check out their Ralph Waldo Emerson, William Shakespeare, and Edgar Allan Poe candles, among others.
Here’s the perfect bookish candle for Outlander fans. It’s designed to smell like Lallybroch, so you can give your reader the gift of smelling Jamie Fraser! What could be better?
For the Romantasy girlies, tons of artisans have started making ACOTAR and Fourth Wing candles of all sorts, like this Xaden candle or this Rhysand scented candle.
Bookish card game

Another small stocking stuffer for book lovers they might enjoy is a bookish card game. You can opt for a trivia game, literary charades, or even a Shakespearean card game suited for families.
For romantasy lovers, there’s even a Throne of Glass card game inspired by the works of Sarah J. Maas.
Bookish coasters
Who needs boring, plain coasters when there are so many cute bookish coasters? Show your beloved reader how much you know them with this stocking stuffer that says, “Hey, I know you love to read, and I also want your furniture to be protected from annoying water rings. Don’t you feel special!”
I personally have these beauties at home, and they would be perfect stocking stuffers for book lovers:
Perhaps my favorites that I’ve seen are these vintage style library card coasters, which I think would delight any book lover:
But there are bookish coasters out there to suit any taste, including coasters with Jane Austen covers, and these thicker coasters that actually look like little books (if the thought of setting your drink on a book however fake doesn’t give you a stress rash):
Pressed flower bookmark making kit
Another fun stocking stuffer idea for a crafty book lover is a kit to make their own pressed flower bookmarks! You can go about this idea a multitude of ways. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could collect and press flowers yourself (you could even make this romantic and use flowers from a wedding bouquet or other nostalgic moment) and putting them together with the tools needed to make bookmarks.
Or, you can buy an all-in-one kit that includes pre-pressed flowers, like this bookmark making kit on Amazon.
eReader
If you’re working with a decent budget, then a new eReader can be an amazing stocking stuffer for a book lover you’re really crazy for. Your loved one will be able to take their favorite books with them on their adventures and travels without the weight and space of lugging hardbacks.
As for which eReader to choose, well that’s a little more complicated. But to help you out, you can check out my very detailed reviews of the newest Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite 10th Generation, as well as my honest thoughts on the Kobo Clara Colour — that might be a good option if your book lover is interested in e-ink but you’re not ready to drop almost $300 on the new Kindle Colorsoft.
The new Kindle Paperwhite does look like a promising option at an acceptable price, and keep an eye out for Black Friday deals, as they nearly always go on sale then.
Bookish eReader cover
If you’re buying your book lover a Kindle or Kobo, or if they’ve already got one, then why not get them an ereader cover that gives them the feel of a real book? I love this idea for bookish stocking stuffers.
It gives you the FEEL of having a beautiful book with the convenience of an eReader, so it’s perfect even for the eReader skeptics. There are also lots of cool book Kindle covers on Etsy, like these cute ones.
There are other companies making book Kindle covers, though, like Well Read Company and other Amazon sellers like this one:
Bookmarks
No reader can possibly have enough bookmarks. It doesn’t matter how many I have; it seems I’m always reaching for a receipt, a tissue, or whatever is flat and in reach to mark my page. Some cute bookmarks to add to their collection would be perfect stocking stuffers for book lovers. Plus, they are very affordable.

The sky’s the limit in terms of design when it comes to bookmarks. You can definitely try to get some that are personalized to the person’s other hobbies interests. Personally, I’d recommend steering clear of the fancy leather, wood, or metal bookmarks. They can leave indents in the book, and they’re likely to get lost anyway.
However, thin fabric bookmarks or bookmark ribbons can be a great choice that won’t damage a book.

Literature lovers will appreciate these cute paper bookmarks with illustrated book quotes on them. Romance readers will get a kick out of these sassy paper bookmarks.

Bookish jewelry
I don’t wear much jewelry, but when I do, it’s often an ode to one of my favorite hobbies, reading. Bookish jewelry can make great stocking stuffers for book lovers, but make sure you know your loved one’s taste in jewelry if you go this route (for example, do they like gold, silver, or rose gold colored jewelry?) . Here are a few fun ideas:

Outlander fans will fall in love with this copycat of Claire’s wedding ring (but order well ahead of time!):

Book Page holder
Ah, the dreaded thumb fatigue that comes from holding open a book for too long. Why not choose one of these beautiful and affordable book page holders for your bookish stocking stuffers?
I recently purchased a pair of these thumb book holders, and I think they can definitely come in handy for holding hardcover books. Plus, they’re just the right size for a stocking and inexpensive to boot.
Bookish office supplies
Mundane tasks become infinitely more fun when done with fun, book-themed office supplies! This is another great idea for stocking stuffers for book lovers that are affordable, cute, and practical. Look at these cool literary Post-it note booklets:
They also make Edgar Allan Poe and Jane Austen themed sticky notes.
You can also consider a nice quality pen with a literary quote engraved on it. Here are some with quotes from Henry David Thoreau and Ernest Hemingway that could make a good stocking stuffer:
There are others with quotes from Shakespeare and George Orwell. Might seem silly, but it’s a practical gift that’s also fun and shows you know them and their interests well. That’s a win in my book.
Bookish keychain
Since everyone has keys, just about everyone can use a keychain. Bookish keychains can be fun, affordable stocking stuffers for book lovers.
Here are some cute bookish ones I found on Amazon. A general interest bookish keychain:
A wristlet bookish keychain would be perfect for a book lover who’s always losing their keys:
Or you could choose a fandom-specific keychain for your reader, like this ACOTAR inspired keychain:
Audible subscription gift card
If your loved one likes listening to audiobooks (like my all-time favorite audiobook), then an Audible gifted membership just might be the perfect bookish stocking stuffer (you can read my breakdown of the latest Audible memberships here).
Gift your favorite reader 3 months of audiobooks for $45. Recently, Amazon has added a good number of audiobooks that are included for subscribers but don’t use any monthly credits, so it’s become more than just one audiobook a month; it’s more like giving them access to an audiobook library!
Related: Wondering what audiobooks are included in Audible subscriptions? I’ve taken the guessing out of the equation and listed the 50 best audiobooks members can listen to for free.
Earbuds (for listening to audiobooks)

Earbuds can make great stocking stuffers for book lovers when paired with an audiobook subscription as suggested above. Or, they can simply be used by readers to tune out the noise around them while reading a physical book. I have the Apple Air Pods Pro, which I recommend for any Apple users. They integrate seamlessly with an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.
The noise pass-through and noise cancellation features have also come in handy. I like to listen to audiobooks on my runs, and this allows me to do so while still remaining aware of my surroundings for safety.
However, if you’re not ready for the hefty price tag of air pods or if your reading loved one isn’t an Apple user, there are still some really nice, affordable options. Noise cancelling earbuds from Anker are a well-reviewed and popular budget option.

Stocking stuffer-sized books
Unspurprisingly, one of the best stocking stuffers for book lovers is, well, a book. The problem is, most regular books won’t fit inside a standard sized stocking. So you’ve got to get creative in the books you choose. Here are a few ideas that should be small enough to be bookish stocking stuffers.
If you’re looking for more ideas for the best books to gift, start with my list of the best cozy books to read. These are all a pretty safe bet for universal enjoyment!
Gift card to your local indie bookstore or Bookshop.org (available in US and UK).
You can buy the reader in your life all the bookish accessories in the world, but when it comes down to it, what does a book lover really want? Books, of course! And the opportunity to browse for books and then buy them. So I have to say, the number one stocking stuffer book lovers will love to find on Christmas morning is a gift card to their favorite indie bookstore or to Bookshop.org, which supports indie bookstores (available in the US and UK).
I also recommend getting a gift card that’s specifically for a bookstore so they don’t end up using it on extra paper towels or toilet paper or something on Amazon. Force them to treat themselves to a new book, guilt-free!
Tickets to a bookish event
If your favorite reader prefers experiences to gifts, then tickets to a bookish event can be just the bookish stocking stuffer you’re looking for. Look for literary festivals around you, and check eventbrite for any themed bookish events coming up soon, like the Harry Potter festival in Staunton, Virginia.
If you sign up for my newsletter, I send upcoming literary events to your inbox for free once a month.
I also frequently repost bookish events in my Instagram stories, so make sure to follow!
That wraps up my list of 27 stocking stuffers for book lovers that will be loved and actually used.
